KARACHI:

At least a dozen people were arrested for attacking a polio vaccination team when it came to inoculate children in the Bakhar Goth slum of the Scheme 33 area on Thursday.

Another 25 persons were also booked in the FIR registered at the Sachal police station under various sections including Anti-terrorism Act.

Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah has taken strict notice of the attack on the polio vaccination team and instructed the Inspector General (IG) Sindh to ensure swift arrests of all those responsible and ordered an increase in security for polio teams across the province.

According to reports, District Health Officer (DHO) East, Deputy District Polio Officer (DDPO) East, and other officials, along with police personnel, were conducting a polio refusal conversion drive in a hardcore area of the Mahsud community near Abu-ul-Hassan Isphani Road when a group of miscreants initially verbally abused the polio team and later physically assaulted them.

The attackers also pelted stones at the police mobile, and the mob targeted senior officials. Police arrested 12 individuals, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining culprits.
