A Lahore High Court division bench on Wednesday gave a final chance to Punjab governor to represent his office of chancellor of public sector universities in proceedings of intra court appeals (ICAs) against dismissal of writ petitions challenging the process of appointment of vice chancellors in these universities.
Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry warned that if the office of chancellor remained absent on the next hearing the bench would suspend the appointment of Dr Khaliqur Rehman as vice chancellor of Government College University.
Additional Advocate General Muhammad Hanif Khatana assured the court that he would convey the warning to Governor Latif Khosa before the next hearing on September 21.
Dr Hassan Amir Shah, Dr Yousaf Hayat, Dr Shaukat Ali and Dr Maqbool Hussain Sial are appealing against the dismissal by Justice Nasir Saeed Sheikh of their writ petitions challenging the process of appointment of VCs in six public sector universities.
Justice Sheikh had on June 24 ruled that no irregularities had been found in the process of appointment of the VCs by government’s search committee. The chief justice has linked the appointment of VCs to the final verdict in the case.
