This move increases accessibility and places greater competitive pressure on traditional search engines like Google, which has long dominated the online search market. Other AI-driven search platforms, such as Perplexity, may also be impacted by ChatGPT Search becoming more widely available.
What Is ChatGPT Search?
ChatGPT Search, launched in October 2024, differs from the standard ChatGPT chatbot by providing real-time, dynamic information. While the general ChatGPT model is trained on a static dataset up to a specific cutoff date and does not retrieve live data, ChatGPT Search accesses and presents up-to-date information, making it useful for current events, stock prices, weather updates, and other time-sensitive queries.
A key distinction is that ChatGPT Search includes sources and links within its responses, allowing users to verify information and explore further details. This functionality aligns it with competitors like Perplexity, which also emphasizes transparency in sourcing.
How to Use ChatGPT Search
To access ChatGPT Search, users can visit ChatGPT.com and select the “Search” option within the prompt box. The tool then retrieves relevant real-time information and displays sources in small boxes within the response. Users can click on these links or use the “Sources” button at the end of the response to view a complete list of references.
OpenAI’s Recent Innovations
OpenAI continues to expand its AI capabilities with recent launches such as Operator, an AI agent designed to autonomously execute web-based tasks, and Deep Research, an AI system capable of conducting multi-step research autonomously. Both advancements aim to enhance productivity and streamline information retrieval for users.
