Kate Cassidy, the girlfriend of late One Direction star Liam Payne, has opened up about his sudden passing, saying she never imagined he would die so young.
In an exclusive interview with The Sun, the 25-year-old influencer described his death as a “tragic accident.”
Payne, 31, died in October 2024 after falling from the balcony of his hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Toxicology tests later revealed traces of alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant in his system. His official cause of death was ruled as “polytrauma,” indicating multiple traumatic injuries.
Cassidy, who had been dating Payne since 2022, shared that she had left Argentina for their Florida home to take care of their dog, Nala, never expecting tragedy to strike. “Liam was in such a good headspace when I left,” she said, adding, “If I could see into the future, I would never have left Argentina.”
Following his death, Cassidy posted a heartfelt tribute calling Payne “the love of my life.” She also shared a handwritten note from the singer hinting at their plans to marry within a year.
The couple first met in 2022 while Cassidy was working as a waitress in South Carolina. She admitted that she still struggles to process his death, often calling his phone just to hear his voicemail.
“I think about Liam every second of every day,” she said, expressing how difficult it is to navigate life without him.
