Policeman, friend killed in attack

A police official and his friend were killed and their driver injured in an armed attack on a car near Muridke.

According to officials, the firing caused a traffic accident, resulting in the deaths of Sub-Inspector Maratab Ali and his friend Zaka, while the driver suffered severe injuries.

Police said the deceased official was posted at the Organised Crime Unit (OCU) headquarters I Lahore.

He was heading to Sheikhupura with his friend when unidentified persons opened indiscriminate fire on his car. In an attempt to escape, the driver accelerated the speed, but lost control over it and then vehicle rammed into a pole.

As a result of the accident, the SI and his friend died on the spot, while the injured driver was transported to a nearby hospital.

Police collected evidence from the spot after the incident.

Muridke Saddar police registered a case against unidentified attackers on the complaint of the deceased official's brother.
