LAHORE:

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested two men suspected of human trafficking and visa fraud.

An FIA spokesperson said on Wednesday that Zahid Mustafa and Amjad Bhatti were arrested in Lahore and Kasur.'

Zahid, a fugitive, was arrested for allegedly scamming a citizen with a fake Canadian job offer and embezzling Rs3.99 million. The suspect had been on the run since last year following the registration of a case against him at the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle in Lahore.

The spokesperson said Bhatti ran a fraudulent employment scheme, deceiving citizens with fake overseas job promises. During the raids, officials seized several Pakistani and counterfeit Spanish passports.

Neither of the suspects could provide a valid explanation for possessing the documents.

It was revealed during the investigation that the suspects had collected passports from citizens without authorisation and failed to facilitate their travel abroad.

After receiving large sums of money, they had gone into hiding to evade the authorities.

FIA Lahore Zone Director Sarfaraz Virk said action against human traffickers had been intensified in coordination with victims.
