Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel took aim at Kanye West and Bianca Censori’s controversial Grammys red carpet appearance during his Feb. 3 monologue on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Kimmel quipped that if Will Smith had slapped West instead of Chris Rock at the Oscars, “all would be forgiven.”
“Another rodent came out of his hole to hit the red carpet at the Grammys last night — none other than Kanye West,” Kimmel said. “He showed up for the red carpet only, with his wife, who caused quite a stir. She was wearing … nothing.”
Censori, known for her provocative fashion choices, appeared nude on the red carpet, standing next to West, who wore all black with sunglasses. The couple left shortly after their appearance, sparking speculation that they had been removed from the event. However, sources close to the Grammys denied the rumor, confirming that West simply walked the carpet and left.
Kimmel compared the moment to Janet Jackson’s infamous Super Bowl incident: “Remember when the whole country melted down when one of Janet Jackson’s boobs popped out for a millisecond? Now a completely nude woman walks the red carpet, and they’re yelling, ‘Bianca, over here on the right!’”
West was nominated for Best Rap Song for Carnival but lost to Kendrick Lamar’s Not Like Us. Smith, meanwhile, made his first awards show appearance since the Oscars controversy, presenting a tribute to Quincy Jones.
Kimmel closed his monologue with a jab at Smith’s reputation: “If he had slapped Kanye instead, he’d be hosting the Oscars next year.”
