The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has completed and released the new delimitation of Islamabad, setting the stage for the federal capital's local government elections in 2025.
Under the new boundaries, the number of union councils has increased from 125, with each council now comprising nine wards instead of the previous six. Consequently, the total number of wards has risen from 750 to 1,125.
Additionally, the system for electing female councillors has been modifieddirect elections for women's seats in each union council have been abolished. Instead, female, labour, and youth councillors will now be elected by the council itself.
The election commission has invited objections to the new delimitation, which can be submitted from February 1 to February 15 at the office of the regional election commissioner in Rawalpindi during official hours. Only registered voters of a specific union council can file objections, including political party representatives who are voters in the respective area.
Each objection must be accompanied by a map.
The regional election commissioner will conduct hearings and issue a final decision.
