Terrorist commander killed in Lakki operation

A key commander of the banned organization was killed in a search and strike operation in Lakki Marwat district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Monday.

According to details, DPO Lakki district Muhammad Jawad Ishaq received information that a notorious terrorist Rehanullah alias Muntazir Ashna, son of Naqeebullah, resident of Marmandi Azam, is present at a location along with his other accomplices.

On this the special squad of Lakki district police launched a search operation against the terrorists during which the terrorists opened fire on the police.

Cross firing between the police and the terrorists continued for more than half an hour. One terrorist was killed, who was later identified as a most wanted local commander and Rehanullah, while his other accomplices were arrested.

According to the police, the slain terrorist was wanted by the police and CTD Bannu in other serious cases including target killing, extortion, bomb blasts and attacks on police, including the martyrdom of Pakistan Army Lieutenant Arifullah Khan at a mosque.

Police also recovered AK-47, magazines and hand grenades from the possession of the slain terrorist.

It may be mentioned here that a large police contingent was already deployed for the polio campaign and the police were on high alert throughout the district so it responded in a timely manner and eliminated the notorious terrorist.

Lakki Marwat is one of the most troubled districts along with North Waziristan, Kurram, Bannu and DI Khan. Terrorism witnessed a sudden increase after the fall of Kabul to Taliban following the withdrawal of ISAF forces from the war-torn country.
