Punxsutawney Phil is once again celebrating Groundhog Day on Sunday, drawing crowds in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. The big question remains: will this beloved groundhog predict an early spring or six more weeks of winter?

Groundhog Day takes place every year on February 2.

This year, Groundhog Day fell on Sunday, February 2, with celebrations taking place in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.

Groundhog Day 2025 will be observed at approximately 7:15 a.m. on Sunday, February 2. At sunrise, Punxsutawney Phil will emerge from his burrow to search for his shadow for the 139th time, according to groundhog.org/.

Festivities began on Friday, January 31, and will continue until Sunday, February 2. On Groundhog Day, the celebrations commenced at 3 a.m. at Gobbler’s Knob, and between 4 a.m. and 9 a.m., visitors can enjoy live entertainment and fireworks.

Following tradition, a large crowd will be guided by about a dozen members of Phil's "Inner Circle," a group of men in top hats who manage the event each year at Gobbler's Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.

The event is held annually in the borough of Punxsutawney in Jefferson County, located about 65 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.

Throughout the 137 years of the tradition, Phil has seen his shadow 107 times.
