Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has confirmed that the revenue from ICC passes, which would traditionally be provided to the host country, will now be redirected to the PCB following significant upgrades to the stadiums.

In a press conference held at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium, he confirmed the completion of stadium upgrades ahead of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy.

Naqvi revealed that the opening ceremony for the Champions Trophy would take place on February 16, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as the chief guest. Additionally, the National Stadium in Karachi will host its opening event on February 11, with President Asif Ali Zardari expected to attend.

Highlighting the extensive upgrades at Gaddafi Stadium, Naqvi explained that the added costs, including enhancements such as an upgraded sound system and LED lights, were necessary.

In a move to manage the financial aspects of the stadium’s renovation, Naqvi highlighted the additional expenses incurred due to the installation of a new sound system and LED lights.

To offset these costs, the PCB has decided to request revenue instead of accepting the complimentary passes usually provided by the ICC to host countries.

Naqvi stated, "We have requested revenue in place of ICC passes to compensate for the significant expenses during the upgrades." He said that PCB operates independently and does not rely on federal government grants for funding.

He also confirmed that ICC officials, including its chairman, and representatives from participating teams had been invited to the events.

Naqvi noted the ongoing work at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, where renovations are in the final stages. "We are nearing completion, and the stadium's facilities, including the media and VIP boxes, are ready for the mega event," he added.

Regarding cricketer Saim Ayub, the chairman said that the young opener would need another four to five weeks of rest following medical advice.

Commenting on Pakistan’s preparations for the Champions Trophy, Naqvi confirmed that all arrangements were in place, ensuring a successful tournament. As for future plans, he mentioned the formation of separate teams for white-ball and red-ball formats in 2026.

The PCB chair reaffirmed that the board would continue to prioritise the safety and enjoyment of cricket fans across the country, vowing to make the ICC Champions Trophy a memorable event.

The event will begin on February 19, with Pakistan facing New Zealand in the opening match at Karachi's National Stadium. Matches will also take place across Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Dubai.
