In a significant reshuffle, the director general of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the inspector general of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) police were removed from their posts, according to separate notifications issued on Wednesday.
The two officers were transferred on the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Accordingly, FIA DG Ahmed Ishaq Jahangir and K-P IG Akhtar Hayat had been ordered to report to the Establishment Division as officers on special duty (OSDs).
According to the notifications issued by the Establishment Division, the appointments and transfers were effective immediately. As per a notification, Zulfiqar Hameed had been appointed as the new K-P IG in place of Akhtar Hayat.
Until the appointment of the new FIA DG Jan Muhammad would perform the duties as acting FIA head. Sources said that Punjab IG Usman Anwar's was stated to be at the top of the list for the new FIA DG, and in his place, Bilal Kamyana's name was taking rounds for the post of the Punjab IG.
