A seven-year-old Bengal tiger under treatment at Bahawalpur Zoo passed away on the evening of January 24. The male Bengal tiger was born on April 10, 2018, at Bahawalpur Zoo.

According to Deputy Director Wildlife Bahawalpur, Syed Usman Bukhari, the tiger was suffering from gastroenteritis and a kidney infection, and symptomatic treatment was being provided.

However, the tiger had stopped eating for the past three days, and its condition continued to deteriorate.

Sources revealed that the Bengal tiger had been suffering from various ailments for the past three years, which led to the loss of one of its eyes and severe weakness.

On January 24, the animal was shifted to a squeeze cage for medical examination and treatment but could not survive.

Following its death, Dr. Tariq Mehmood and Professor Riaz Hussain conducted a post-mortem examination.

The initial report indicated that the cause of death was nephrotic syndrome (kidney failure), which led to multiple organ failure.

This incident at Bahawalpur Zoo raises serious concerns about the health and care of animals there and highlights the lack of basic medical facilities at zoos.

Experts emphasize that proper care and timely treatment of captive animals can prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
