KARACHI:

Sindh Home Minister Zia Ul Hassan Lanjar has directed the provincial police chief to appoint a senior officer to conduct a thorough investigation after some Chinese nationals moved the Sindh High Court (SHC) against 'harassment and restrictions on their movement in the name of security issues'.

The home minister reiterated the provincial government's commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Chinese nationals, in line with the guidelines set out in the SOPs. The protection of Chinese investors, especially those involved in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and other non-CPEC projects, remains a top priority for the provincial government, he added.

Lanjar stressed the importance of collaborative efforts between the provincial government, police, and local sponsors to provide 'foolproof security' for Chinese personnel. He also underlined the need for continuous communication and coordination with sponsors to ensure that all security measures are properly implemented.

The home minister called for regular checks by the Special Protection Unit (SPU) officers to ensure that the SOPs are being followed and that any security lapses or deficiencies are identified and addressed. He further stressed the need for taking swift action in response to any security complaints.
