PIA air hostess arrested for involvement in smuggling

Authorities are continuing to probe the matter to determine the scale of the smuggling operation

An air hostess from Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has been arrested for smuggling mobile phones into the country. Customs officials at Lahore Airport claimed to have found the phones in her possession after she arrived on a flight from Abu Dhabi.

According to customs sources, the air hostess was allegedly carrying dozens of expensive mobile phones on flight PK 264. The phones were found when her luggage was checked upon arrival at Lahore Airport.

Customs officials reported that the mobile phones were seized, and a disciplinary investigation has been initiated against the air hostess. Authorities are continuing to probe the matter to determine the scale of the smuggling operation.

Two days earlier, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has sacked two crew members after an investigation confirmed their involvement in mobile phones theft.

PIA employees identified as Mohammed Mumtaz and Asifa Naaz, were terminated from employment after investigation found them guilty of smuggling mobile phones, said PIA spokesperson in a statement.
