The executive committee of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) held its 12th meeting on Wednesday to review progress on ongoing projects and policy measures across various sectors.

The meeting, chaired by Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal included federal ministers, the SIFC national coordinator, federal secretaries, provincial chief secretaries, and senior government officials.

During the meeting, ministries presented updates on projects and policy initiatives under SIFC. Discussions focused on industries, agriculture and livestock, mines and minerals, oil and gas, and port development.

The committee emphasised the importance of close coordination among stakeholders to accelerate industrialisation and improve the investment climate.

Progress was also reviewed on the framework for special economic zones approved during the 11th Apex Committee meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, with directives issued for expedited implementation.

Efforts to grant industry status to the warehousing and logistics sector were lauded. This policy aims to unlock investment in modern supply chain infrastructure, supporting exports, agriculture, and manufacturing.

The committee highlighted that this initiative could position Pakistan as a preferred hub in global and regional supply chains. It directed swift action on infrastructure projects for ports and shipping, including improving terminal handling to facilitate exports and imports.

Additionally, stakeholders were urged to accelerate cross-sectoral issues using the SIFC platform for policy-level decisions and consultations.

The meeting aimed to enhance the investment environment and pave the way for sustainable growth across sectors, strengthening Pakistan’s global economic standing.
