The anniversary in September 2024 was overshadowed by the tragic death of Matthew Perry, who played Chandler Bing on the series. Perry died on October 28, 2023, at the age of 54 from a ketamine overdose and drowning in his Pacific Palisades home. His death prompted an investigation, leading to the arrest of several individuals, including two doctors, a live-in assistant, and a drug dealer, all of whom have been charged in connection with his death.
Despite the tragic loss, Schwimmer and the rest of the Friends cast have continued to honor Perry's legacy. The Friends exhibition, featuring the iconic Central Perk couch, is currently touring Australia in celebration of the show's anniversary. Schwimmer, LeBlanc, and the other cast members have spoken fondly of their time working together, emphasizing the lasting impact the series has had on its fans worldwide.
