Indian captain Rohit Sharma has set his sights on winning the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which will take place in Pakistan and the UAE in February.
During the 50th-anniversary celebrations of Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, Sharma shared his hopes of celebrating a victory by bringing the trophy back to Mumbai for a fan parade at the iconic venue.
"We will try our best (to win the Champions Trophy). I'm sure that the wishes of 140 crore Indians will be behind us when we land in Dubai for the Champions Trophy.
We will try to do well and bring the Champions Trophy 2025 to the Wankhede Stadium (once we win)," Rohit said.
The event, held on January 19, was attended by cricket legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Ajinkya Rahane, and Ravi Shastri, marking a milestone for the historic stadium known for hosting many memorable matches.
India has a rich history in the Champions Trophy.
They shared the 2002 title with Sri Lanka after a rain-affected final and won outright in 2013 under MS Dhoni's captaincy. However, the team fell short in 2017, losing to Pakistan in the final.
The upcoming Champions Trophy, featuring eight teams and 15 matches, will run from February 19 to March 9, 2025. Matches will be held in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi in Pakistan, as well as Dubai.
The tournament opener will see hosts Pakistan face New Zealand on February 19 in Karachi, while the highly anticipated clash between Pakistan and India is scheduled for February 23 in Dubai.
