Two people allegedly sexually assaulted a woman under the pretext of offering her a job in the Double Road area. The suspects also reportedly made an explicit video of the woman during the incident.
When the victim approached the New Town police station seeking justice, the police allegedly pressured her to reconcile with the accused instead of taking legal action.
Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Khalid Hamdani took notice of the incident and ordered the registration of a case against the suspects. The woman's video statement has also surfaced, detailing the incident and her experience with the police.
The woman, who belongs to Islamabad, stated in the FIR that after separating from her husband, she was living with her parents. The victim met a woman named Fari during her employment at a call centre. Fari inquired about her circumstances, and upon learning of her financial struggles, promised to help her secure a better job.
One day, Fari phoned the victim and called her to meet on Double Road. She reached the spot to find Fari and two unknown men. The suspects allegedly assaulted her at gunpoint and threatened her while recording explicit videos.
After finding no relief at the police station, the victim recorded a video statement and accused the New Town police of harassment, claiming she was forced to sit in front of the suspects and was pressured into reconciliation.
The police also warned her of legal expenses and court visits. The victim also appealed to the Punjab Chief Minister for justice.
The CPO took notice of the video and got a case registered against three suspects. New Town SHO Anwarul Haque did not respond to calls and text messages sent by The Express Tribune. However, a police spokesperson denied allegations of harassment and stated that the complainant had not been reached out since the case was registered.
