CM orders road lanes for bikers

Work under way on 10km track in Lahore in first phase

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed the authorities concerned to demarcate separate lanes on the road in Lahore for motorbike riders and bicyclists to protect them from accidents.

She said biker lanes would be built on all roads of Lahore in phases as part of efforts to provide modern traffic facilities in the city.

She highlighted, "In Phase-I, construction of biker lanes from Ferozepur Road and Canal Road to Lahore Bridge is under way."

A 10-kilometre biker lane is being prepared in green colour.

The chief minister added, "The modern global concept of biker lane will reduce accidents and ease traffic flow."

She directed the relevant authorities to improve the construction quality of the biker lanes.

Chairing a review meeting on the ongoing development projects, the chief minister ordered the completion of the construction and repair of roads across Punjab by the end of the ongoing fiscal year.

She added, "Millions of citizens will benefit from rehabilitation, construction and repair of roads across Punjab."

She also ordered the completion of the first phase of construction and rehabilitation of health centres in the province by June 30.

She emphasised timely completion of the project and said, "I will personally inspect and inaugurate newly-constructed Basic Health Units (BHUs) and Rural Health Centres (RHCs) in the province."

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed the planning and development department to take appropriate measures for the generation of additional resources.

Giving a detailed briefing on the current status of ongoing development projects in the province, Communications and Works Secretary Sohail Ashraf said, "Out of 462 projects approved under the Road Rehabilitation Programme, work has started on 455. More than 25 per cent of the work on the projects has been completed so far." Work on the second phase of the programme has been started on 67.projects.
