Kareena Kapoor Khan told police she witnessed the intruder repeatedly stabbing her husband, Saif Ali Khan, during an attack at their Bandra residence early Thursday.
"The attacker was aggressive. I saw him attack Saif repeatedly... Our priority was to get him to the hospital," Kareena told the police. She also shared her fear and trauma, saying, “After the attack, I was terrified, so Karisma took me to her house."
Despite the violent nature of the attack, Kareena emphasized that nothing was stolen from the house.
"The attacker didn’t steal anything. Saif intervened to protect our younger son, Jehangir, and the attacker was unable to reach him. Saif tried to save the children and women," she said.
The attack occurred in the early hours, with the family managing to retreat to the 12th floor of their duplex residence in Bandra.
Kareena's sister, Karisma Kapoor, arrived to provide support and took her to her Khar home after the traumatic event.
In response to the attack, local authorities heightened security at both the Satguru Sharan building and Karisma's residence.
Saif, who was stabbed six times—including in his neck and shoulder—was rushed to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital for emergency surgery.
According to Dr. Nitin Narayan Dange, the actor is now in stable condition. “Saif Ali Khan is doing excellent. We made him walk and he can walk well. There is no problem and not much pain,” Dr. Dange said in a media briefing on Friday.
The actor, who underwent a five-hour surgery, is recovering well and has been moved out of the ICU.
Police have intensified their investigation into the motive behind the attack, as nothing was stolen from the house, raising suspicions about the attacker’s intentions. Early footage from the scene shows the intruder wearing a dark shirt and seemingly plotting his escape.
The attack, which has left the film industry and the nation in shock, continues to raise questions about the intruder's identity. Authorities suspect the assailant could be a "hardened criminal."
Meanwhile, Saif Ali Khan's insurance details have surfaced on social media, revealing that his treatment cost was Rs 3,598,700, with Rs 2,500,000 covered by insurance. His hospital stay is expected to last until January 21, 2025.
The family has received an outpouring of support, with fans and colleagues praying for Saif's swift recovery and the safety of his loved ones.
