HYDERABAD:

The vice chairman of Union Council 41 in Sukkur district was shot dead on Thursday in Rahuja village in an attack triggered by an ongoing tribal feud. According to police, the assailants managed to escape after the fatal attack on Habibur Rehman Jatoi.

The ongoing feud between the Jatoi and Khoso tribes is believed to have escalated after the killing of Fauji Khoso over a year ago during a theft incident. Two suspects, Qayum Jatoi and Aatan Jatoi, are already in police custody in connection with that murder. Habibur Rehman Jatoi appears to be the latest casualty of this deadly conflict.

The victim's body was shifted to Sukkur Civil Hospital for a postmortem before it was handed over to his family for burial in Shah Belo. No FIR had been registered by Thursday evening.

In a separate incident, a man, identified as Ameen Pathan, was killed and his son injured in a gun attack in the Mill Colony area of Khairpur district. The fatal attack took place within the remits of B-Section police station. As per police reports, Pathan had been accused of killing two persons in the same area, though police had ruled their deaths as an encounter. Pathan's murder has stirred up tensions in the area. As of Thursday evening, the FIR for his killing was also not registered.
