According to the official logline, “In the epic fifth and final season, Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) returns to New York to enjoy his happily ever after… until his perfect life is threatened by the ghosts of his past and his own dark desires.”

Netflix also released a chilling teaser, giving us a first look at Joe stepping back into Mooney’s bookstore, the birthplace of his obsession-fueled descent.

As the teaser unfolds, Joe’s unsettling voiceover sets the tone for what’s to come:

"Here we are, together again, back to where it began. And the one constant, the one thing that has always been there for me is you.”

The Plot of Season 5

Joe has reinvented himself time and time again, leaving a trail of bodies and broken lives in his wake. But in Season 5, he won’t just be running from his past—he’ll be forced to face it.

Will this be end of Joe Goldberg? Will he finally reap the consequences of his countless and heinous crimes?

The most anticipated return is that of Ellie (Jenna Ortega), last seen in Season 2. After her sister Delilah was murdered by Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti), Ellie was left to navigate the world alone. Joe, in his twisted attempt at “helping,” sent her money from afar, but now, she’s back.

Showrunner Sera Gamble confirmed that bringing Ellie back was always part of the plan but had been delayed due to Ortega’s filming commitments for Wednesday.

"We wanted Ellie back, but Jenna was tied up," Gamble revealed. "Seeing Jenna’s rise has been such a pleasure. We always had ideas for Ellie, and now the timing is perfect."

But Ellie isn’t the only ghost from Joe’s past making a comeback. The teaser hints at the return of:

Paco (Joe’s young neighbor from Season 1, who saw more than he should have)
Peach Salinger’s family (Still seeking justice for her “suicide”)
Marienne (His Season 3 obsession, who barely escaped him)
Nadia (The Season 4 whistleblower who took the fall for Joe)
With these figures looming over him, Joe’s legacy is under attack—and for the first time, it’s unclear if he can talk, charm, or kill his way out of it.

‘You’ first premiered on Lifetime in 2018, but after one season, it was canceled. Enter Netflix, which gave the show a new lease on life, turning it into a global sensation. Over the years, Joe’s twisted mind and the show’s satirical take on modern relationships have made it one of the streamer’s biggest hits.

Season 4, which dropped in two parts in 2023, left Joe in his most powerful position yet, but also his most vulnerable. Now, with old enemies returning and the walls closing in, the final season promises to be his bloodiest reckoning yet.

And we cannot wait to see how this final, thrilling chapter ends.
