Jiri Prochazka’s heartwarming gesture for cancer patient ahead of UFC 311

Jiri Prochazka shaves his head for cancer fan Ashley, pledges $50,000 donation, and gears up for UFC 311.

Jiri shared his pledge for a $50,000 at the UFC 311 press conference on Thursday evening.

Jiri Prochazka, former UFC light heavyweight champion, debuted a new look at the UFC 311 press conference on Thursday. The Czech fighter revealed it was more than a style choice. Jiri shaved his head in solidarity with Ashley McGarity, a young woman battling cervical cancer.

McGarity, undergoing chemotherapy, had previously cut her hair to match Prochazka’s iconic war braid, a signature look he’s worn in many of his fights. She originally posted her story on reddit, before it was picked up by prominent MMA publications.

Prochazka responded in kind, shaving his own head and pledging to donate 1 million Czech Koruna (approximately $50,000 USD) to cancer research through his foundation. “This hair was inspired by Ashley,” Prochazka said. “She’s fighting cancer. This is my way of showing solidarity. It’s about sending good energy.”

Prochazka also announced the donation as a way to celebrate reaching one million Instagram followers, demonstrating his belief in martial arts as a force for good. In a gesture of shared support, UFC CEO Dana White promised to match Prochazka’s donation with $50,000 of his own.

McGarity, who will be seated cageside for Prochazka’s bout, continues her own fight while cheering on her favorite fighter.

Prochazka faces Jamahal Hill on Saturday in a pivotal matchup at 205 pounds. Both fighters aim to rebound from losses to reigning UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Alex Pereira and work their way back into title contention.
