Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has dismissed claims that he has been advised bed rest due to swelling in his back, calling the reports “unreliable” and a source of amusement.

The rumours, which originated from a social media post quoting unnamed sources, alleged that Bumrah would remain at home to recover.

The 31-year-old pacer swiftly refuted these claims via his social media, stating, “I know fake news is easy to spread, but this made me laugh. Sources unreliable.”

According to Indian media sources, Bumrah has been directed to report to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for rehabilitation.

A BCCI source revealed that initial scans ruled out a fracture, but swelling in his back requires monitoring. “He will be at the NCA for three weeks, and his match fitness will be assessed after practice games,” the source added.

Bumrah’s recent workload has been significant, bowling 151.2 overs and taking 32 wickets during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. He captained India in two Tests, securing convincing wins in both.

The BCCI’s announcement of the 15-member squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has been delayed due to fitness concerns involving Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav.

The tournament, scheduled from 19 February to 9 March, includes India’s opening game against Bangladesh in Dubai on 20 February.

Bumrah remains a pivotal player for India, having recently topped the ICC Test rankings and received the ICC Player of the Month award for December 2024.

He is also nominated for ICC’s Test Cricketer of the Year and the prestigious Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy.
