Conor McGregor is facing a new civil lawsuit filed by a woman accusing him of sexual assault during the 2023 NBA Finals in Miami.

The lawsuit, submitted on Tuesday to the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida, alleges that McGregor assaulted the plaintiff, a 49-year-old Wall Street vice president, in a bathroom at the Kaseya Center.

The alleged incident took place after Game 4 of the Miami Heat and Denver Nuggets series on June 9, 2023.

The Miami Heat and Basketball Properties LLC, the operators of the arena, are also named as defendants.

According to the filing, McGregor allegedly led the woman into a restroom stall and assaulted her after an associate forcibly brought her to him. The plaintiff claims that McGregor was visibly intoxicated but continued to be served alcohol by arena staff, who are accused of gross negligence.

The lawsuit seeks compensatory damages exceeding $75,000, along with medical expenses and other relief. It accuses McGregor of battery and the Kaseya Center of failing to ensure a safe environment.

The incident was first reported to Miami police on June 11, 2023, but in October 2023, the Florida State Attorney’s Office declined to pursue criminal charges. McGregor has denied the allegations, with his attorney, Barbara Llanes, labeling the lawsuit a “shakedown” and expressing confidence that it would be dismissed.

The lawsuit also references another incident that same evening, when McGregor punched the Miami Heat mascot, Burnie, during a halftime promotional skit.
The mascot required hospitalisation, yet the plaintiff claims that McGregor was allowed to continue drinking after this altercation.

Jim Dunn, the plaintiff’s attorney, stated that the civil case represents his client’s sole remaining avenue for justice following the State Attorney’s decision.

Dunn also noted that his client is pursuing the case to raise awareness about sexual assault despite concerns about potential repercussions for her Wall Street career.

McGregor, a former UFC champion, has faced legal troubles before. In November 2023, he was ordered to pay $253,000 in damages in a separate civil case in Ireland, where he was found liable for sexually assaulting a woman in 2018. McGregor has denied those allegations and intends to appeal.
