KARACHI:

A two-member bench of the Sindh High Court, headed by Justice Salahuddin Panhwar, heard the petition related to the repatriation of a Pakistani family trapped in Syria and sought the response from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistani Embassy in Syria and others.

Petitioner's lawyer, Usman Farooq Advocate stated that the situation in Syria has changed and contact with the besieged family has been cut off. The Pakistani embassy in Syria is not providing any assistance. The prime minister has issued orders to arrange the repatriation of Pakistanis stranded in other countries. Arrangements should also be made for the return of Pakistanis trapped in Syria.

Petitioner Mohiuddin Khan had taken the position in the petition, stating: "My daughter-in-law and her two children are trapped in Syria. My son Muhammad Kamran was employed in a petroleum company in Syria. He went missing after the civil war in Syria, whereas my daughter-in-law and grandchildren are living in a refugee camp."

Justice Salahuddin Panhwar remarked that this is a matter of human rights and directed the parties to submit their reply by January 27.
