Nebraska football mourns Jack Hoffman, beloved superfan, who died at 19 after a brave fight with pediatric brain cancer.
Jack's fight against the disease began when he was just 7 years old, and despite enduring years of treatment, he continued to inspire others with his strength and positivity.
Hoffman gained national fame in 2013 when Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini invited him to participate in the Nebraska Football Spring Game, where he ran for a touchdown that captured the hearts of fans nationwide. His inspiring moment on the field led to numerous accolades, including an ESPY Award for "Best Moment" and a meeting with then-President Barack Obama. This unforgettable run also brought significant attention to pediatric brain cancer, a cause close to Jack's heart.
In addition to his personal story, Jack's legacy lives on through the Team Jack Foundation, an organization dedicated to raising funds for pediatric brain cancer research. Since its founding in 2013, the foundation has raised over $12 million to support advancements in treatment and care for children battling the disease.
Following reports of his declining health in December, the Team Jack Foundation confirmed Jack's passing. His family, who has remained steadfast in their mission to raise awareness for pediatric cancer, declined to make a public statement at this time.
Services for Jack Hoffman will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Atkinson, Nebraska, with visitation scheduled for Friday, January 17, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the church. The funeral will take place on Saturday, January 18, at 10:30 a.m. at the Atkinson Community Center. Jack's impact on his community and the world will never be forgotten, as his legacy continues to inspire hope and strength in the fight against pediatric brain cancer.
