The Sindh Assembly in its session on Tuesday, with Deputy Speaker Naveed Anthony in the chair, rejected a resolution presented by the opposition on the occasion of Private Members' Day regarding establishment of a commission to improve quality of education in the province.
The house also rejected the opposition's resolution regarding corruption and irregularities in Sindh Public Service Commission. However, resolution presented by MQM's female member regarding the establishment of an autism centre and a centre for training in autism treatment was approved unanimously.
During the proceedings of house, it was also decided that the adjournment motion of Pakistan Peoples' Party member Heer Soho regarding the unannounced load shedding of electricity in Sindh will be discussed for two hours next Friday.
During the question-answer session opposition leader, Ali Khursheed expressed dissatisfaction after not getting a satisfactory answer from Minister for Social Welfare Tariq Talpur. He said that the PPP has been in power in Sindh for 16 years.
MQM member Rashid Khan presented a resolution regarding alleged corruption and irregularities in the Sindh Public Service Commission. Opposing the resolution, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar said that this issue has been discussed. Many matters in this regard are being implemeted as per the court's instructions.
MQM member Amir Siddiqui presented his private resolution regarding the establishment of a commission related to the province's education standards.
This resolution was also opposed by the parliamentary affairs minister, saying, Sindh Education Policy Commission already exists in the province, so what is the need for another commission?
MPA Fauzia Hameed presented a resolution to establish an autism centre and a centre for training in autism treatment, which was unanimously approved with the support of government members and the opposition.
Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho said, it is an important issue and the resolution will be a gift for children suffering from autism, as well as for their families. She said, these children can also be given vocational training.
During the question and answer session Provincial Minister for Social Welfare Tariq Talpur answered various written and supplementary questions of the members and told the house that his department monitors the activities of NGOs. There is a procedure for providing financial assistance of NGOs and how disciplinary action is taken against NGOs that are involved in illegal activities or corruption.
MQM member Taha Ahmed asked the minister to point out five projects that the Sindh government can be proud of.
Provincial Minister for Social Welfare Tariq Talpur said that we are working in Karachi with ANF and we are also doing good work in other districts. Apart from this, the department also works for transgenders.
