Do you think celebrities are spared from the pain and ignominy of acne? Think again. In a hilarious reel that will resonate with everyone, actor Iqra Aziz grimly took to her Instagram handle on Friday to name and shame the pimples that had dared to mar her beautiful skin once again.
"I do not like doing make-up," began the Burns Road Kay Romeo Juliet actor as she flaunted her flawless makeup. Before viewers had a chance to oooh and aah for too long over her smooth skin, Iqra, in a bout of typical self-deprecation, quickly drew attention to a spot that had bloomed up on her right cheek.
"Every day I think this acne is going away slowly – but no – that is just wishful thinking!" said Iqra in a lament that will be familiar to anyone who has woken up and stared in horror at a large, pulsating red spot that has set up camp overnight on their face. "I wake up in the morning, and there is a new pimple! There is a new pimple, and then another new pimple, and one by one I get one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight new pimples!"
Iqra's post will be especially relatable to an audience being fed a diet of filtered perfection in this age of TikTok and Snapchat. By zooming in on her skin woes, Iqra's post serves to assure fans that everyone, in or out of showbiz, everyone ultimately has the same problems. Or at least they do when it comes to pimples paying a visit.
"I never thought about talking about my pimples or acne because I took it for granted!" added Iqra. Lest anyone had missed the point, the actor zoomed in the camera to the spot nesting comfortably on her cheek.
"Look at this!" she said. "What is this? Pimple!"
In speaking plainly about her battles with her skin, Iqra joins her acting cohort Hania Aamir, who has also been open about her blemishes. Last November in an interview, Hania reminded fans of a time when she had posted a photo of her bare acne-ridden skin to assure viewers that it was nothing to be ashamed of.
"Unless something on my face could distract viewers from the scene or the dialogue, I wouldn't cover it up," said Hania at the time.
Together, with famous faces working to destigmatise blemishes, perhaps the time has come for a new era of skin positivity.
