Shakib Al Hasan's participation in the upcoming Champions Trophy is in jeopardy after he failed his bowling action reassessment test.
The Bangladesh all-rounder, who had been banned for an illegal bowling action during a county match in England, underwent two assessments—one at Loughborough University and another in Chennai.
Both tests returned negative results, keeping his bowling suspension intact as per ICC regulations.
While Shakib can continue playing as a batsman, his hopes of representing Bangladesh in the Champions Trophy now hang in the balance.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had expressed their support for Shakib's inclusion in the squad if he cleared the test.
The 36-year-old has been absent from international cricket since Bangladesh’s Test series loss to India, and he also missed a farewell match against South Africa.
Shakib last played in November during the T10 League but has not participated in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League.
Meanwhile, New Zealand has announced its 15-member squad for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, with Mitchell Santner debuting as captain.
The team, featuring a blend of experienced players like Kane Williamson and Tom Latham, alongside debutants Will O’Rourke, Ben Sears, and Nathan Smith, will begin their campaign on 19 February against Pakistan in Karachi.
New Zealand will also face Bangladesh on 24 February in Rawalpindi and India on 2 March in Dubai.
Santner expressed confidence in the squad, which combines experience with fresh talent, aiming for a strong performance and their first Champions Trophy title.
