Netflix has acquired the rights to adapt Ana Huang’s bestselling romance novel Twisted Love and its sequels into a TV series, securing the deal in a seven-figure agreement. The series promises a steamy and emotionally charged narrative, following four best friends and their complex, brooding love interests as they confront dark secrets and overcome obstacles to find love.
While no cast has been announced, the adaptation aligns with Netflix’s strategy of developing successful book-to-screen romances, alongside hits like Bridgerton and Virgin River.
The Twisted series, which began with Twisted Love in 2021 and includes Twisted Games, Twisted Hate, and Twisted Lies, has sold over 12 million copies globally. The debut novel spent 60 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list, with translation rights sold in 34 countries. The series’ popularity extends to TikTok’s “BookTok” community, where the hashtag “#twistedseries” has over 2 billion views, and “#anahuang” has garnered 1 billion. This massive online following underscores the franchise’s appeal to younger, social media-savvy audiences.
Ana Huang, best known for the Twisted series, has written 13 books across four series, selling over 18 million copies worldwide. Her recent release, The Striker, debuted in October 2024, and she has two new books set for release this year: King of Envy in April and The Defender in October.
Netflix has not commented on the deal, but Huang’s representation, including Park, Fine & Brower Literary Management and Independent Artist Group, played a key role in securing the agreement.
