Jamie Lee Curtis likens Pacific Palisades to Gaza after Los Angeles fires, netizens react
Jamie Lee Curtis' comment likening Pacific palisades to Gaza during a Q&A session for The Last Showgirl went viral on social media fueling debate and attracting criticism for the inappropriateness of the comparison.
During the exchange, in a video that is now making the rounds on social media, Curtis can be seen sitting next to Pamela Anderson as she talks about the widespread damage that has ocurred due to the L.A fires that erupted earlier this week.
"The entire Pacific Palisades looks like, you know, unfortunately Gaza or one of these war-torn countries where awful things have happened.", stated the actress whist talking about how the fires have wreaked havoc across the entire city including her neighbourhood.
Netizens quickly chimed in at the remark, criticizing Curtis for the inapt comparison with the overall response not being a positive one across platforms.
Some users considered the comment tone-deaf for equating man-made violence with natural disasters with one commenting, "This fire is horrific. However, coming from a place of extreme wealth and privilege and then to compare to Gaza? Yikes".
Others were more empathetic.
The backlash gained momentum due to Curtis' past treatment of the ongoing violence in Gaza. After the events of October 7th 2023, the actress mistakenly added a picture of Palestinian children in an Instagram post meant to show support for Israel.
Although she proceeded to clarify the error, she did not address or express support for Palestinian children.
Curtis recently pledged $1,000,000 to aid those affected by the wildfires in L.A.
