Pakistan's opening batter, Saim Ayub, has completed his initial medical check-up in London as part of the ongoing treatment for his ankle injury.

The check-up, which took place under the supervision of renowned ankle specialist, Dr. Lucky Jeyaselan, is the first step in assessing the full extent of Saim's injury.

The injury occurred during Pakistan's Cape Town Test against South Africa, where the left-hander sustained a fracture in his ankle. Following the incident, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided to send Saim to London for a thorough medical examination to ensure he receives the best possible care.

The initial assessment results have led to the scheduling of another check-up, which will help determine the appropriate course of action for his recovery. The medical team will base their recommendations on these findings to create a detailed treatment plan.

With Saim Ayub's participation in the upcoming Champions Trophy still up in the air, the final decision on his inclusion in the provisional squad will be made after further consultation with the medical specialists in London.

Previously, assistant Coach Azhar Mahmood accompanied Saim Ayub on his journey to London for the treatment. The PCB Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, has overseen Ayub’s well-being, ensuring he receives top-tier medical care.

As per Moshin Naqvi’s instructions, the young batter is set to undergo a thorough examination by renowned sports orthopaedic specialists in England on Wednesday, where they will assess the severity of his injury and plan his rehabilitation.

Mohsin Naqvi expressed his full support for Saim Ayub, calling him a “valuable asset” to Pakistan cricket and assuring that all necessary resources will be provided for his recovery. He also wished him a swift recovery, stating he would constantly communicate with the doctors overseeing his treatment.

Fakhar Zaman aims for CT comeback

Fakhar Zaman is "100% certain" he will play for Pakistan again and is gearing up for the 2025 Champions Trophy, which begins on February 19 and will be hosted in Pakistan and Dubai.

"A 100%, I will play for Pakistan (again)," Fakhar, 34, told the Vipers Voices podcast. "Actually, many people do not know about that, but after the T20 World Cup I got sick and because of the medical condition I was not fit, so I was not a part of the team.

"But now I [have] recovered 100%, and you will see me in the next white-ball series which Pakistan play."

Fakhar, once an integral part of the Pakistan white-ball setup, has not played international cricket since the 2024 T20 World Cup last June in the USA and West Indies, where Pakistan were eliminated in the group stage. He last played an ODI in the 2023 ODI World Cup but is hopeful of returning for the Champions Trophy at home.
