Allison Holker is shedding light on the hidden struggles of her late husband, Stephen "tWitch" Boss, revealing that he battled a secret drug addiction before his tragic death by suicide in December 2022 at the age of 40.

In an emotional interview with PEOPLE, Holker shared that she discovered a hidden "cornucopia" of drugs, including mushrooms, pills, and other substances, while cleaning out their closet ahead of his funeral. “It was a really triggering moment for me,” Holker admitted. “It was alarming to learn there was so much happening that I didn’t know about. It was a very scary moment in my life.”

Throughout their nine-year marriage, Holker believed their communication was open and honest, particularly regarding Boss’ marijuana use. However, the discovery of hidden substances revealed a deeper, more troubling side to his struggles. “He was wrestling with so much inside himself,” she said. “He was self-medicating and coping with feelings he didn’t want to share, because he loved everyone so much.”

Boss, a beloved performer known for his extroverted public persona, had long hidden the pain of childhood trauma. Holker uncovered entries in his journals that alluded to abuse he had never fully processed. “He didn’t want others to take on his pain, but it was overwhelming for him,” she explained.

Now, through her upcoming memoir, This Far: My Story of Love, Loss, and Embracing the Light, Holker hopes to shed light on the importance of seeking help. “I want people to know it’s okay to not be okay and to take steps toward healing,” she said.
