Paris Jackson, daughter of the late pop icon Michael Jackson, celebrated a significant milestone on January 7, 2025—five years clean and sober from drugs and alcohol. The 26-year-old musician shared the heartfelt announcement on Instagram, reflecting on the transformative journey that began on January 7, 2020.
“Hi, I’m PK (Paris Katherine) and I’m an alcoholic and a heroin addict,” she began her candid post. “Today marks 5 years clean & sober from all drugs and alcohol. To say that I’m thankful would be a poor euphemism. Gratitude hardly scratches the surface.”
Jackson expressed her appreciation for the joys of a sober life, saying, “It’s because I’m sober that I get to smile today. I get to make music. I get to experience the joy of loving my dogs and cat. I get to feel heartbreak in all its glory. I get to grieve. I get to laugh. I get to dance. I get to trust. I feel the sun on my skin and it’s warm. Life keeps happening regardless of whether I’m sober or not, but today I get to show up for it.”
Her accompanying video chronicled her journey, featuring clips of past struggles with substance use and moments of joy after sobriety, including scenes with her pets and fiancé, music producer Justin Long, to whom she got engaged in December.
“To those that helped me on this journey… you know who you are, and I owe you my life,” Jackson wrote in closing.
The Let Down singer has openly discussed her battles with addiction, depression, and suicide attempts. Her new post, however, suggests a relapse following her 2017 declaration of sobriety in Rolling Stone.
