Sunday was the last date for registration under a free solar panel scheme launched be Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to provide the beneficiaries permanent relief in electricity bills.
According to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, 100,000 homes will get free solar panels at a cost of Rs10 billion under the scheme.
Homes consuming an average of 200 units of electricity on a meter will be able to get solar systems.
The chief minister said 100,000 solar panel systems of 550 and 1,100 watts will be distributed in Punjab.
The consumers using up to 200 units per month will get solar systems through balloting in June.
Solar panel systems will be installed in the homes of successful applicants.
The registration was.done through a portal, website, SMS and phone.
The chief minister said, "The provision of solar panels will provide significant relief to the public in electricity bills."
She added, "Punjab will be made a hub of renewable energy."
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said, "Agricultural tube wells will also be gradually converted to solar energy."
She added, "Giving 100,000 e-bikes to students and introducing e-buses will change the traditional transport culture in the province."

She highlighted, "The government of Pakistan is highlighting the Kashmir cause at all relevant forums.
