The Sindh government has suspended Salahuddin Ahmed, the Chief Executive Officer of Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC), pending an investigation into allegations of corruption and misconduct related to groundwater extraction licences, Express News reported.

The inquiry follows reports of significant financial irregularities, where millions were allegedly embezzled under the guise of licence issuance. Seventy groundwater extraction licences have been cancelled, and the Sindh Anti-Corruption Department has been tasked with conducting a transparent investigation, which is expected to conclude within two weeks.

During this period, Asadullah Khan, the Chief Operating Officer, has been assigned the additional responsibility of CEO and Managing Director.

In November last year, Express News unearthed an organised racket involving corrupt officials and scrap dealers who had been extracting and selling pipes from the abandoned sections of the K4 water supply project.

It was revealed that the stolen pipes were being transported to various warehouses in Malir. To ensure the safe movement of these stolen pipes, "pilots" - armed men - were deployed in front of and behind the trucks to secure the route.
