Pakistan, UAE to strengthen ties with focus on trade, energy

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Rahim Yar Khan on Sunday, where both leaders expressed a shared commitment to deepening economic, political, and cultural relations.

The UAE president, who arrived at Rahim Yar Khan Airport, was welcomed by PM Shehbaz, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and other officials.

The meeting focused on several key areas, including economic collaboration, regional stability, climate change, and mutual global interests, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office.

PM Shehbaz praised the UAE’s visionary leadership and its pivotal role in supporting Pakistan’s development, emphasizing Pakistan's eagerness to expand cooperation in renewable energy, technology, trade, infrastructure, and skill development.

In return, President Sheikh Mohamed expressed the UAE's strong interest in expanding ties with Pakistan, particularly in the mining, minerals, and agriculture sectors.

He commended the progress of Pakistan’s economy under PM Shehbaz's leadership, noting that the country’s growing economic stability presents new opportunities for bilateral investment.

The UAE president reiterated his country’s commitment to its longstanding partnership with Pakistan, emphasizing the importance of people-to-people connections and shared prosperity.

PM Shehbaz thanked the UAE for its ongoing support, particularly in humanitarian and development aid during critical times. Both leaders reaffirmed their dedication to fostering peace and progress in the region, with an emphasis on collaboration in priority sectors.

In a post on X, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif shared, “Delighted to meet with my dear brother, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of UAE, today in Rahimyar Khan."

"Reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to further strengthen Pak-UAE cooperation and elevate our ties to a mutually beneficial strategic partnership. Matters of mutual interest including investments in Pakistan were discussed with a resolve to move forward together,” he added,

The two nations share deep historical, cultural, and economic ties, with a significant Pakistani diaspora in the UAE contributing substantially to Pakistan’s economy through remittances.

The UAE continues to play a key role in providing humanitarian aid, supporting infrastructure development, and assisting Pakistan during challenging times.
