Grammy-winning artist SZA has announced her plans to fulfill her recording contract with Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) by creating two albums of peaceful children’s music. Sharing the news on social media on January 4, 2025, she also signaled her intention to step away from the music industry afterward.
“To fulfill my last 2 album requirements, I think I just wanna make peaceful children’s music n get outta here,” SZA tweeted. She added that she plans to become a farmer and donate produce to underserved communities. This unexpected yet heartfelt pivot marks a new chapter for the artist.
Her upcoming move into children’s music builds on past experiences that hinted at this shift. In 2024, SZA appeared on the popular PBS program Sesame Street, showcasing her versatility and connecting with a younger audience. Reflecting on the milestone, she celebrated by sharing a 2017 tweet where she expressed her dream of joining the show. “GODS TIMING!!! FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS AND SAY THEM OUT LOUD!! NEVER GIVE UP!! ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE I BELIEVE IN YOU!!” she wrote.
SZA’s love for children has been evident over the years. In a 2022 Complex interview, she candidly spoke about her desire to have children, emphasizing her focus on becoming a parent over traditional family structures. “It’s less stressful to think about like, ‘Who’s it gonna be? Are they trustworthy?’... Versus being like, ‘OK, this is the doctor I know I want to deliver my kids,’” she explained.
As one of R&B’s most influential voices, SZA’s decision signals not only the end of her chapter with TDE but also a broader reimagining of her creative journey. Fans are now left to anticipate how she will bring her unique artistry to children’s music while continuing to inspire new audiences.
