A survey report released by the Punjab Bureau of Statistics shows that the use of contraceptives in Punjab increased from 34.4 percent in 2017 to 40.1 percent in 2024.
The demand for family planning in the province increased from 52.2 percent to 56.8 pe cent during the period, while the percentage of related unmet needs decreased from 17.8 to 16.7.
The survey of 2024 provided representative data for monitoring the situation of children, women.and families. The Punjab Population Welfare Department provided strategies and guidelines to the field staff.and officials.
The report shows that the use of contraceptives in Punjab was 34.4 percent in 2017, which increased to 40.1 percent in 2024, while unmet needs decreased from 17.8 to 16.7 percent.
The demand for family planning increased from 52.2 to 56.8 percent. Most importantly, the average fertility rate in Punjab decreased from 3.7 children in 2017 to 3.5 in 2024. Meanwhile, the teenage birth rate decreased from 40 to 33 percent.
According to a statement, a positive trend has been seen in Punjab regarding family planning. The department stated that its teams go to all the rural, remote and tribal communities across the province to encourage the people to ensure the welfare of the family and adopt family planning methods.
