5,112 gender violence cases reported in 2024

ISLAMABAD:

A total of 5,112 cases of gender-based violence were reported across the country in 2024, encompassing various forms of violence, including murder, suicide, abduction, rape and torture.

According to Sahil, a non-governmental organization, 554 of these cases were reported in December alone.

The report is based on data collected from 81 newspapers across all four provinces, including ICT, AJK, and G-B.

According to the report, 1,273 cases of murder, 799 cases of abduction, 579 cases of torture, 533 cases of rape and 380 cases of suicide were reported during the outgoing year from January to November.

The data reveals that out of the total reported cases, 5% of victims were under 18 years while 95% were adults. It also shows that the age group of 21-30 years is continuously most vulnerable to abuse.

In 33% of the total cases, the abusers were acquaintances, while 14% involved husbands and 10% were strangers.

Provincial divide shows that 73% of the total cases reported from Punjab, 15% from Sindh, 8% from K-P, 2% from ICT and 2% cases from Balochistan, AJK & GB.
