The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government has announced that any group engaging in aggression after the Kurram peace agreement would be treated as terrorists and dealt with accordingly.
K-P Adviser for Information Barrister Saif stated that travel and security arrangements were being made for the convoys set to move on Saturday. He emphasised that, as per the decisions of the Apex Committee, the area would be cleared of weapons and bunkers.
He further explained that, under the agreement, both parties were required to submit a coordinated plan for the surrender of weapons within 15 days, the open display and use of weapons would be prohibited, and the collection of donations for the purchase of weapons would not be allowed.
Barrister Saif added that, according to the agreement, all parties were prohibited from constructing new bunkers and that existing bunkers in the area must be dismantled within a month.
He clarified that after the dismantling of bunkers, any party resorting to aggression would be considered terrorists and action would be taken against them.
Restrictions on the use of roads will now ease following the Kurram tribal district peace agreement.
Under police supervision, convoys will transport passengers and essential food supplies. The federal government has provided the province with 10 platoons of the Frontier Corps (FC) for assistance. Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif stated that the decisions of the Apex Committee on banning the open display, purchase and use of weapons as well as on the removal of bunkers would be implemented.
After the peace agreement, travel via roads in Kurram would resume. Convoys carrying passengers and goods will be dispatched under police escort. Barrister Saif gave the assurance that travel and security arrangements for convoys using the Kurram road had been completed.
Meanwhile, the remaining six members have also signed the Kurram Peace Agreement. Under the agreement, the first convoy of cargo trucks will depart for Parachinar tomorrow.
In addition, a NOC has been issued for the recruitment of 400 police personnel for the security of Kurram's routes.
