Past the mystique of showbiz, even celebrities struggle with finding life partners. In an interview with Dananeer Mobeen on YouTube show GirlsOnly, Yashma Gill shed light on this reality by reflecting on personal experiences.
Yashma joked about her plight of being unable to score a "rishta", confessing that the struggle eventually drove her to seek reinforcements from a close friend's mother. "The other day, I was talking to Komal Meer about this. People might think that we as actors have tons of options. But truthfully, we lead such busy lives that it's difficult to focus on this sort of thing. And even if a few people are available, they consider us unapproachable," she said.
Addressing the viewers in a lighthearted manner, she encouraged potential suitors to give it a shot, emphasising that she is indeed approachable. "We aren't unlike other women. We have a similar need for companionship," Yashma confessed.
In fact, the actor added, working women might even desire companionship more since they tend to "suppress" their emotions and are prone to letting their problems pile up without a resolution. "I say 'all working women' because our society has slight qualms about women who have jobs. They believe that such a woman might have too much exposure of the world and won't be able to give time to her home. Or they are worried whether she's marriage material or not. If she's independent, will she be bossy? And such," she listed.
At 35, the starlet voiced her desire to dismantle this persistent "stigma," revealing that marriage proposals often come with the condition that a female actor must leave her career behind. "This is all that I know now. I cannot have a life where I'm dependent on somebody else," she maintained.
When offered a hypothetical scenario, Yashma answered that if she feels secure enough in a serious relationship and has faith in her future husband's commitment, only then would she consider leaving her current career behind for him. However, in this scenario, she expects him to provide for her as promised. Ultimately, it depends on whether or not she would regret bidding farewell to the career that has made her what she is today.
"But I can make that kind of sacrifice," she added. "I can sacrifice anything and everything if it's real from the other person's side. But I am yet to find something like that." Yashma then hilariously posed a condition, exclaiming, "Yes, dude, I'll leave it behind! But you'll have to leave a lot behind too!"
