A crypto trader was abducted in a police mobile and looted of Rs 90 million, Express News reported.
The victim, identified as Arsalan, a crypto trader from North Karachi, was forcibly taken in a police mobile, allegedly by five individuals in plain clothes.
They transferred $340,000 (worth over Rs90 million) from his account to various others using his phone.
The abduction occurred on the night of December 25, when Arsalan was in his office located in a private housing society in Manghopir.
The perpetrators, claiming to be police officers, blindfolded him, took him to the Passport Office in Saddar, and threatened him at gunpoint.
They stole his mobile phone, reset it, and emptied his wallet of Rs8,000 before abandoning him near the Mazar-e-Quaid.
Arsalan has named four suspects—Muzzamil, Hamad, Ashir, and Zaman—and one unidentified individual in his report.
The police have filed a case under Section 365-A (Kidnapping for ransom) and Section 34 (Common intention). The case has been transferred to the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) for further investigation.
The victim claimed the suspects had previously contacted him for cryptocurrency transactions, but he had turned them down.
Surveillance footage from the housing society’s main gate also shows the police mobile entering the premises during the time of the crime.
According to police sources, evidence has been collected regarding the police mobile and the officers involved.
Investigators have also mapped out the route taken by the mobile, which was observed at various locations.
