About 190 people died in 17,520 road traffic accidents in 2024 while 17,658 people suffered injuries in the Rawalpindi district.
Emergency Rescue Service 1122 Rawalpindi provided timely rescue services to all victims. According to Rescue 1122 officials, 190 people were killed, 7,645 seriously injured and 10,013 slightly injured in road traffic accidents reported to Rescue 1122, Rawalpindi.
Rescue Service Rawalpindi reached the spot on time, maintained an average response time, and provided rescue. Most of these road traffic accidents involved car and motorcycle riders. About 17,848 traffic accident victims include 15,003 males and 2,845 females. Causes of accidents include speeding, careless driving, one-wheeling, wrong turning, tyre bursts, and others.
Most of the accident victims are between the ages of 11 to 40 years. According to the Rescue 1122 spokesman, Usman Gujjar, the rescue service is also trying to reduce road traffic accidents in Rawalpindi. Awareness programmes, training in schools and colleges and other programmes are ongoing to reduce traffic accidents.
Moreover, sixteen fatal accidents occurred on various highways in Rawalpindi in December. According to the data of City Traffic Police Rawalpindi, 16 fatal accidents took place on various highways of Rawalpindi in December 2024, in which 16 precious human lives were lost.
Eight of these accidents occurred due to negligence and carelessness of drivers of heavy and public service vehicles, violation of high-speed limits, violation of one-way and wrong overtaking. Although City Traffic Police Rawalpindi issued more than 8,000 challans for vehicle fitness issues and other violations in December.
The Chief Traffic Officer, Rawalpindi has also written a letter to the authorities concerned in which it is requested to fix the timings of entry of heavy vehicles in the city area as well as on the highways of the rural area so that accidents and loss of precious lives can be prevented.
A three-day training workshop is being organised at the Traffic Headquarters race course on the special orders of the Chief Traffic Officer, Rawalpindi, in which heavy and public service drivers across the city will be informed about the causes of accidents and their prevention measures. Awareness will be given about the casualties so that such fatal accidents can be reduced in the future. Twenty-one people were injured in 19 non-fatal accidents in December.
