Not long after Interstellar made a spectacular comeback in IMAX, the acclaimed Christopher Nolan film is now set to join Netflix – the perfect way to kick off the new year.
Fans are still buzzing with excitement over the announcement of Christopher Nolan’s next project, The Odyssey. The film promises to be one of his most ambitious undertakings yet, with his unique take on ancient Greek mythology. In the meantime, audiences can revisit one of his most impactful works to date.
First released in 2014, Interstellar returned to theaters in 2024 with an IMAX re-release to celebrate its 10th anniversary. The event was a massive hit.
For those who prefer watching at home, there’s good news: Matthew McConaughey’s space epic will soon be available on Netflix.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, Interstellar was re-released in IMAX during the latter half of 2024. It became the highest-grossing IMAX re-release of all time, earning $35.5 million globally and bringing the film’s total box office earnings to $720 million.
For those who missed the theatrical re-release, Interstellar will be available on Netflix starting Wednesday, January 1, 2025.
This isn’t the only Nolan masterpiece heading to Netflix. His 2010 mind-bending heist thriller, Inception, will also be available on the same date.
In honor of Interstellar’s 10th anniversary, Christopher Nolan penned a heartfelt letter included in the 10th Anniversary Collectors’ Edition.
“Ten years pass in the blink of an eye,” he wrote. “Ten years since we tried to look into the future. Since we tried to show that time and space could bend and warp in ways both logical and horrifically indifferent to our human needs.
“We peered into the vastness of space to explore the cruelty of time, but the joke was on us: here on Earth my kids grew up just as fast as they do for Cooper perched at the edge of a distant black hole. We’re as confounded by the mutability of time as the crew of the Endurance, ten years compressed into mere moments."
