Starting January 1, 2025, a new demographic cohort known as Generation Beta will officially begin. This group, encompassing individuals born between 2025 and 2039, is projected to make up 16% of the global population by 2035.
Many members of this generation are expected to witness the 22nd century, according to social researcher Mark McCrindle, who is recognized for defining generational labels.
Generation Beta follows Generation Alpha (2010–2024), which succeeded Generation Z (1996–2010) and millennials (1981–1996). The naming convention, initiated with Generation Alpha, uses the Greek alphabet to signify a new chapter in human history.
Nicknamed the "Beta babies," this generation is anticipated to grow up in an era marked by unprecedented technological advancements. Autonomous transportation, wearable health technologies, and immersive virtual environments are expected to be standard features of their daily lives.
"While Generation Alpha has experienced the rise of smart technology and artificial intelligence, Generation Beta will live in an era where AI and automation are fully embedded in everyday life—from education and workplaces to healthcare and entertainment," McCrindle stated in a blog post.
Generation Beta is likely to inherit a world grappling with significant challenges such as climate change, urbanization, and shifting global population dynamics. Experts predict that adaptability, collaboration, and sustainability will become key priorities for this cohort.
Although recent generations have been more eco-conscious, Generation Beta will face increased pressure to make sustainability a core expectation rather than a peripheral concept. Additionally, as social media continues to shape interactions, members of Generation Beta may need to address the growing scarcity of meaningful human connections.
"Understanding their needs, values, and preferences will be critical as we anticipate how they will shape the future of society," McCrindle emphasized.
Generation Beta marks the beginning of another chapter in generational evolution, with its members poised to navigate a world where technology and sustainability define the future.
