ISLAMABAD:
The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) urged the government on Tuesday to end corruption in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) by ensuring proper working of the e-filing system and minimising any direct contact of taxpayers with the tax collection machinery. In a statement, the ICCI president asked the government to avoid a sudden re-shuffling of a large number of key officials in FBR to facilitate taxpayers. “The re-shuffling of experienced FBR officials can prove fatal, as incoming people will perhaps take more time to adjust in the new set-up,” he said. He said that it was not an appropriate time to make any sudden changes that would leave a negative impact on the tax collection system. Talking about the loopholes in the online sales tax collection system, he said that it was not functioning properly and, as a result, the government had extended the deadline several times.
