Locals rescue rare dolphin in Khairpur

HYDERABAD:

The local people of Faiz Ganj distributary in Khairpur district caught a blind dolphin in a fishing net. Blind dolphin is the rarest dolphin breed in the world. Locals handed it over to a team of Indus Blind Dolphin Centre.

A centre's official Mir Aijaz Talpur told the media they will leave the dolphin between Guddu and Sukkur barrages which is home to around 1,400 blind dolphins.

Dolphins are no longer found in the river stretch below the Sukkur Barrage, as the water level between Sukkur and Kotri Barrages, and further downstream to the sea, typically remains low for most of the year.
